Re: AVTS 3.13.2.1 Opening Procedures

During the first go round, we followed the instructions in the attached jpg.  We were SET for ELECTION so we removed disk and pressed OK.  This gave us the:

"The following error has been detected
Exception in Ballot Station
Error Validating Main File - Election.adt

At the time the print spooler was also active printing a zero report.  May have caused problem I don't know.

On the second go round we stuck to not removing the disk - even though the screen says to remove the disk, and hit shell and all was OK.  On the second unit we kept the disk in  and hit OK, and it was OK.  I guess its not a bug. But the screen telling you to take the disk out seems problematic, since when you do you get the adt error.  We could not recreate the earlier "adt" error loop that we'd experienced. Perhaps it had something to do with the print spooler and the disketter or something. I don't know. Any chance of changing the take the disk out message to correspond to the election day function?  Also SHELL seems like a programmer term.  SHELL is fairly arcane for most folks.

Steve,

I just tried this on my machine using the Alameda database and all worked correctly.  Does this happen on all of you machines? If so could you send me the audit files (election.adt) from the removable disk and the backup directory.

At the risk of causing more problems or seeming stupid, I've spoken to Jeff, who indicates he believes he reported something similar about two weeks ago.  Voting in test mode seemed to go OK.  It's when we try to get started once we've SET FOR ELECTION that is problem.  Our assumption was that we would SET FOR ELECTION at the warehouse, turn units off, deliver to sites, and turn it back on, print zero report and go.  We can't do that.

Here goes:

Burn Database diskette
Load onto Ballot Station
Overwrite Secondary media - YES
Set for Election
Print zero report - Press Done - goes to Flag Screen
Assume No voters vote first day on one or more ballot stations
Insert Manager Card to exit ballot station
Brings up screen that gives "END ELECTION" or "SHELL" (It seems to do this every time we insert Mgr Card)
When we select SHELL, and turn unit off, then back on for next days voting

We get the OVERWRITE MEDIA message again, and in that process we get:

"The following error has been detected
Exception in Ballot Station
Error Validating Main File - Election.adt

And we are hosed. And seem to have to burn a new diskette.  We are in a loop with this.  This loop occurs whether we select SHELL or END Election.
