That’s just the way
it works. You can’t change the race type after it is initially set,
candidates or no. Just delete the race and start over. If there no
candidates its not like you have anything to loose.

new race, Enter a candidate, and then delete any and all candidates. Race
Type is grayed out, even though there are no candidates.
