Fw: GEMS 1-18-9 printer logging/Texas certification

This issue needs to be incorporated into the GEMS 1-17 thread, ie. in 1-17-23, as we cannot present a 1-18 release for Texas certification.  Note that audit logging is also functional in GEMS 1-17-17, the latest ITA-certified GEMS version, although printer interrupt functionality is also not in place, in the same manner as described for GEMS 1-17-11.

Texas certification has now been moved to May 21st.

Addendum:  It is possible to perform activities in GEMS while the printer is disabled but printer logging is enabled, without being prevented by the display of an error or warning message.

In GEMS 1-17-11, user activity is not halted when the printer is disabled, rather, all messages corresponding to user activity performed while the printer was disabled are printed when the print device is again enabled.

None of the following list of transactions are currently logged to printer, as required by Texas certification:

  • database creation

  • changing the election title

  • creating report precincts

  • creating districts

  • creating voter groups

  • changing ballot options

  • changing race options

  • defining races, candidates and candidate endorsements

  • defining headers

  • generating ballot artwork

  • setting the election status

I have installed a line printer on my PC and updated registry settings for printer logging.  In GEMS 1-17-11, each of these transactions is correctly logged.

Printer logging must be implemented before May 22nd, at which point GEMS is submitted for certification in the state.
