We will be using (5) VIBS units in Alameda.  I would like to see this capability if possible available for them.  Could this be merged with next release?

A suggestion for controlling the volume on the current units would be to use the star key (*) to reduce the speed and the pound key (#) to increase the speed. This is based on the assumption that those keys have no other functions on the VIBS unit. When the next user inserts their smart card the speed should be set to the default value.

Dmitry has done some research into this (thanks Dmitry), and estimates an implementation would take two weeks.

This is complete.  Dmitry's  estimate of two weeks effort was dead on.

The feature requires that Direct X is installed on the Ballot Station:
Windows 98:   Direct X 7 is preinstalled.
Win95:  Download Direct X 7 from Microsoft.
Windows NT 4:  Download Direct X 3 from Microsoft.
Windows 2000:  Direct X 7 preinstalled (although we don't have any W2K Ballot Stations).
Right now the release is only available as a seperate 3.13 branch for demos.  If El Paso or anyone else would like this as part of a standard release (and wants to do the testing), let us know and we'll do the merge.
