Provisional ballots (was RE: Move Magnify Option to Voter Control )

[not the subject change – we have two threads going here, one concerning magnify and one concerning provisional ballots]

Were they (Georgia) actually sold this?  A provisional ballot solution, as I understand the meaning of the term, is going to require something beefier than a Spyrus, methinks.

Using the spyrus, as it is currently programmed, to create a provisional/challenged voter card at the precinct level is a stop gap measure that can work in a controlled demonstration but not in the uncontrolled environment of a precinct with pollworkers. I have been using an AccuVote Ballot in the precincts for provisional ballots, however I am getting presure from the State of Virginia and the City of Norfolk to come up with an electronic solution.  What is the time frame for coming up with a provisional ballot solution that is simple and easy for the pollworker?  The State of Georgia is going to expect an electronic solution not a paper one.

There isn’t any plan/design in place right now for provisional/challenge ballots beyond what currently exists.  We know this area needs work.  The provisional/challenge ballot project won’t be (isn’t) related to the ballot work Ataa is currently working on.

Will these ballot station options also include the option for the PROVISIONAL or CHALLENGE ballot, will they be with the card encoder module, or something else?

See attached.  I can’t seem to find this email in the archives – apologies if you tried to look this up first.  I have asked Josh to look into that.  Ataa is working on the infrastructure to support a back button to instructions, language, and party.  Magnify should be “easy” after that work is complete.

Any chance of allowing the Voter the option of the magnify button (in addition to the pollworker option).  Anyone see any big downside to it?  It is a consistent theme I hear from everyone that it makes sense to allow the voter an option for that as well.
