Central Count Using Digi PortServer II

Ok, below are the instructions for using the DigiPortServer II with central count.  I've also included the below instructions in a word document for easy reference later.

Central Count Using Digi PortServer II

First, the below setting are assuming a few prior configurations.  First, I assume the server has two NIC cards and the Addresses of these cards are 192.168.3.1 and 192.168.3.2.  Second, you have a crossover cable between the Ethernet interface of the PortServer II and the NIC card on the server.  Third, you have a serial to RJ-45 adapter properly wired to connect the accuvote unit to the PortServer II.  If the above is all in place the below settings will work.

Also, you must enter the Host address into the accuvote prior to Central Count, this IP address will be the IP address of the NIC card the PortServer II is connected to.

Note:  If you change any of the above settings or below settings one thing must be kept in mind, the IP address of the PortServer II and Server’s NIC cards must be of the same subnet.

Initially, use Hyperterminal to connect to the PortServer II.  You will use the RJ-45 to Parallel cable.  Then attach a Parallel to DB9 female adapter.  This will allow you to connect the PortServer II to your Com 1 or Com 2 port.  Then Open a new Hyperterminal Session with the following parameters:

1.)    COM1 or COM2 (depending on which you have it connected to)

2.)    Bits Per Second:               9600

3.)    Data Bits:                          8

4.)    Parity:                               None

5.)    Stop Bits:                          1

6.)    Flow Control:                    Hardware

Connect using username:  root    password:  dbps

1.)    Input the following configurations into the portserver as root:

1.      set conf ip=192.168.3.3

2.      b a=r (this reboots, after reboot telnet in,don’t use hyperterminal)

3.      Close your Hyperterminal connection and Telnet to 192.168.3.3.

4.      set forward state=passive proxyarp=on

5.      set user name=accuvote ipaddr=192.168.3.100

6.      set user name=accuvote netservice=on defaultaccess=netservice pppauth=none protocol=ppp compression=vj

7.      set port range=1-16 dev=mio

8.      set flow range=1-16 ixon=off ixoff=off rts=on cts=on

9.      set user name=accuvote password=off

10.  set line baud=19200 range=1-16

11.  set flow altpin=on range=1-16

2.)    Reboot the PortServer as follows:

1.      b a=r

3.)    Set up a pool of 16 addresses:

1.      Log back into the PortServer via Telnet as root:

2.      set ippool count=16 ip=192.168.3.100

3.      set user name=accuvote ipaddr=ippool

4.      newpass

                                                               i.      current password:  dbps

                                                             ii.      new password: global

                                                            iii.      retype new password: global

The above criteria will allow you to connect up to 16 accuvote units to a 16 port PortServer II.  The settings will have to be tweaked to allow for modem connections.  This will be discussed in another document.
