RE: Audio in the Summary Screen

Title: Message
It's more about our process than it is about the feature.

The sight impaired may be a small group but they are very vocal.  Our CEO, Wally O'Dell (who has or had a blind relative) has formed a very good relationship with the NFB.  They dropped a law suit they had filed against us and have helped us look very good in the press (for both ATMs and voting equipment).  They now help us whenever they can with customers and get us all sorts of free press.  I can guarantee we aren't going to ignore their desires just because there aren't enough blind people to justify the work.  If it helps, think of the extra work as an advertising fee.   ...Pat

Excuse me, I know what they want, ie. equality, but from a programming standpoint they are not equal.  This is worse than the 80-20 principle.  This is the 99.9-.1 principle.  I'm not saying "don't give them an audio summary".  I am saying look at the amount of use, by the number of people using the feature, and weigh it against the list of items to be done.  If that process is done, and this item comes out as a priority as a "flag" item, great.  But simply as a suggested thread without review doesn't make sense to me.

The main thing the NFB and other ADA groups want is equality.  If normally sighted people have a summary, they want a summary, too.  We should consider eliminating the visual version as Greg said.  (I can hear the same roars).  I doubt we can really eliminate it given that it is a good sales feature, but maybe a compromise can be reached that lets us offer a similar function to both sighted and visually impaired voters.  Suggestions welcome.   ...Pat

I would think the "Keep It Simple" rule should prevail.

With this thought in mind, should we eliminate the visual summary screen?
(I can hear the roars of NO, WE NEED IT, IT'S AN EXCELLENT FEATURE)

If there is a visual summary screen, then why is there not an audio summary
screen?

If the ballot is so lengthy and complicated, as Steve and Sue have
mentioned, turn the audio summary off with a flag.  I believe we would score
a lot of points with the ADA groups if this feature were added.

I am in agreement with keeeping things as simple as possible. Many users
will never use half of the features and are only enterested in what it takes
to get their election done. Many customers either by law or size do need
special features. Is it possible to have the econlmy version for most
accounts and the cadillac versions be specific to customers that have asked
for the changes?
