Labels and long names

GEMS 1.5.10

There is a restriction to the number of characters allowed when entering
candidate names in the label field.  If the number of characters in the
candidate's name exceeds the allowed number in the label field then the
operator must key in the balance of characters separately in the ballot
area, leaving the short name in the label field.  No problem!

In order that the candidate names are correct in the Summary Report and SOVC
report, the appropriate race is highlighted in the tree view showing the
candidates in the list view.  The operator will then add the missing
characters to the appropriate candidates.  The names appear correctly on the
two reports.

Will this procedure affect other reports?  If it will then the above
procedure should be blocked.  If not, then why is there a limit to the
number of characters in the candidate entry field?
